SkinQ opened its first skincare and waxing studio back in March of 2019, centrally located in Andersonville at the intersection of Clark Street and Berwyn Avenue. And so much has happened since - notably a worldwide pandemic that deeply impacted small businesses nationwide. However, we spent that time during lockdown and the following months to hone our craft and fine tune our business processes so that when the time came, we would be able to, finally, bring to life the expansion that we’d been planning. So, this April we were ecstatic to open the doors of our second studio in the bustling neighborhood of Roscoe Village. To celebrate, and to share with all of you, we sat down with Emily, the founder of SkinQ, for a quick chat to talk about all things SkinQ - Roscoe Village!
Q: How did you decide to open in Roscoe Village?
A: We had our eye on several potential locations to open our second facial spa studio, but most important was that it be close enough to our original location so that it wouldn’t be too much of a hassle for existing clients to visit, in case they were unable to get an appointment in Andersonville. We had a very specific vision for the design and size of the space, so the stars kind of aligned when we found our spot in Roscoe Village. It checked all of the boxes - and the energy just felt right!
Q: Where exactly are you located, and how do I get there?
A: The address of the studio is 3519 N Lincoln Avenue, Chicago, IL, 60657 (the closest major intersection is Addison Street and Lincoln Avenue). And there are tons of ways to get to us! A lot of people are from the neighborhood so they walk or ride their bikes. But there is also metered street parking readily available, or you can take the CTA Brown Line (Addison or Paulina stops).
Pro tip: Behind SkinQ, on Paulina, there is free parking until 5:00 pm when there’s a night game at Wrigley, and free parking all of the time when it’s not baseball season.
Q: What can clients expect at the Roscoe Village location? Is there anything different?
A: Unlike the Andersonville facial spa studio, SkinQ Roscoe Village is our first street-level storefront and it has two private treatment rooms. We operate by appointment only, so when you arrive, there is a buzzer next to the front door to request entry. This is to ensure a secure and safe environment both for our customers and also our estheticians. If you arrive early, there is a comfortable waiting area in the front where you can have a seat and wait for your appointment. When your esthetician is ready for you, they will come out and greet you and take you back to the treatment room for your service. Our service menu hasn’t changed at all, so you can expect all of the same facials and waxing services that you’re accustomed to. In case you weren’t aware, we also offer eyebrow tinting, lash tinting, and lash lifts. Your experience is still completely 1-on-1 with your esthetician and totally customized to meet your specific needs. If you’re curious to see the interior, check out the “Locations” tab on our website, or there are also a lot of photos on our Google listing.
Q: Who is working at the new location?
A: We’ve hired a handful of brand new employees to work at SkinQ Roscoe Village. We’re so excited to have all of them because they are all extremely experienced and deeply knowledgeable about skincare, skin physiology, signature facials, advanced facial treatments, etc. We searched long and hard for only the best estheticians, and they all had to go through a rigorous recruitment process. You’re definitely not going to get someone fresh out of esthetics school. And you may see some familiar faces, on occasion, at the new studio - that includes myself! :)
Q: What facial products do you use?
A: We use all of the same products as we do in Andersonville. During facials, we primarily use skincare products from PCA Skin, iS Clinical, Sorella Apothecary, and Hale & Hush. The last one, Hale & Hush, is absolutely amazing for anyone with sensitive skin or rosacea. iS Clinical is a staff-favorite … our estheticians can’t get enough of the iS Clinical Warming Honey Cleanser and their Reparative Moisture Emulsion is, hands-down, the best moisturizer for any skin type.
Q: What kind of wax do you use?
A: We use a couple of different types of wax. We use a soft wax from a brand called Lycon and a hard wax from the brand Cirepil. Both waxes are extremely high quality and do a fantastic job at removing hair effectively and gently. Another type of soft wax that we use is from an Australian company called Waxxxpress. They have something called a ‘Wax Roller.’ This little piece of magic takes speed waxing to a whole new level because it’s an applicator that rolls the wax onto the area. So one, you’re not going back and forth from the client to the wax can, and two, it cuts down the amount of time it takes to wax larger body parts. I know this probably doesn’t seem like the most exciting thing ever, but believe me, it is.
Q: What’s your favorite part about being in Roscoe Village?
A: Well, anyone who follows SkinQ on Instagram knows that I love the Cubs, so I love being close to Wrigley. But aside from that, there’s just so much going on in the neighborhood; there are so many places to eat and shop. Not to mention, it’s close enough to Wrigleyville and East Lakeview if you want to go out at night. And of course, now that we’re in the neighborhood, that’s definitely my favorite part about being in Roscoe Village. We’re so excited to continue to provide the best facials and waxing in Chicago!
Peace, Love & Cheers to our new Roscoe neighbors!
XoXo,
Emily
